WHY MENSTRUAL KITS?
In South Africa, less than 10% of girls go beyond 8th grade, and only 25% of women are employed. The primary reason of school dropout and unemployment for women is not having underwear or menstrual products. Moreover, young ladies are bullied and teased in school when their period occurs at an inopportune moment in school. The impact that has on a young lady is drastic, which automatically results in them dropping out of school and losing their self-worth.

Menstrual kits increase the education and employment rate for women in South African communities.
We created GirlStuff.Period to provide 2500 girls, every semester, with underwear and re-usable menstrual pads, so they can stay in school and become employed. GirlStuff.Period also employs 10 women full time to make reusable menstrual pads and underwear. GirlStuff.Period will employ 5 girls in 2018 with an increase in employment of 20% year over year. In 2018, we will deliver 5,000 pads per semester and, therefore, be able to give girls an education and break the poverty cycle.

Meet Rainet
First of all, I would love to thank the management and everyone at GirlStuff for affording me the opportunity to change my life story. I dropped out of school, like many of the girls in the community, I had no skill or any kind of educational qualification that would have helped opened doors of job opportunities in my life. When I started at Girl Stuff, I had no skill or qualification of the job we were offered, but through their training, patience and the will to change our circumstances we all managed to master the skill to make sanitary pads, a product that has come helped save a lot of young girls in and around our community not to drop out of school. I am honoured to be part of a life changing product in our community, more especially because I am involved from the manufacturing of the product. I am part of the group of ladies that are helping train some more woman, who are will to be part of the project and this is so rewarding to me. Thank you, Girl Stuff, and My Arms Wide Open for believing in me, I can not only sew but I have also done some admin and computer course as part of my upskilling myself. I am now a respected mother who is now able to take care of her family
